Disability Access Statement
From the 1st October 2004 the Disability Discrimination Act requires businesses and organisations to take reasonable steps to tackle physical features that act as a barrier to disabled people to access services. An Access Statement is a guide to help those less abled persons decide if our services are suitable for their needs and requirements.
Approach to the single storey rendered cottages is from a private minor road (hardcore) - no gate, to a level parking area (ground slate chippings) sufficient for 3 to 4 cars. The car park is adjacent to the cottages, with access to both front doors by means of a slightly sloping concrete path with handrail, providing level access to both cottages. The cottages are both on one level, with door openings of widths approximately 815mm. Most power points are approximately 500mm above floor level, with light switches at approximately 1110mm above floor level. Walls are painted in pale, plain colours, doors are painted white, while all doorframes, skirting and window ledges are wood-stained.
All rooms open off a rectangular main hall in both cottages. All bedrooms have good centre lights and additional bedside lights. Each shower room has a large power shower, while the flooring consists of non-slip tiling. A shower stool can be provided for guests for the duration of their stay, along with hand-rails for the lavatory. There is no phone in either cottage, but the area has good mobile phone reception for all major networks.
The electric sockets in the kitchens are at worktop level, approximately 1110mm above floor level. Each kitchen is supplied with a small larder fridge. Access to the level concrete patio area and lawned garden is by means of patios doors from the lounge in both cottages, down two steps. Alternatively, the patio and garden can be reached from the front of the cottages by way of the sloping concrete path, which leads directly to both gardens, through one gate. Outdoor table and chairs are provided. The properties are all non-smoking.
